On 8th June 2023, Class 1 visited The Animal Education Centre in East Park, Hull. This linked with our topic from last half term, Animal Safari. The majority of our children live in the village or in local nearby towns, so visiting a city was very exciting for us and we spent lots of time discussing what we could see out of the window as we drove through Hull. Our guide for the day was Craig, who settled us into the classroom and read us a story called 'Snow White and The Seven Dart Frogs' by Gemma Cary. We then did lots of different activities linked to animals, particularly those who live in the rainforest. We learnt that some animals are brightly coloured, either to show off or to let others know that they are poisonous, whilst some are dull coloured in order to camouflage. We then made animal masks and frog puppets that we were able to take home, and had a guided tour of the zoo. We played Eye Spy as we looked around the zoo, focusing on the different patterns and colours we could see on the animals. We saw lots of different animals including leemurs, alpacas and emu's. We ended the day with a play in the park before heading back to the coach, where lots of us promptly fell fast asleep!
