Year 6 Leavers Service 2024

Year 6, you are a unique, lovely, kind, and caring group of children. Your individuality and the progress you have all made as you have moved through the school are something that everybody at Kilham School is very proud of. All classes and children in school make a lasting impression on teaching assistants and teachers, but you are all a very special group. As staff have talked about you around the school, I can tell that you have all got a small place in the hearts of several staff- including me - and you will all be missed in September.

Some of the highlights for your final year include our wonderful Ofsted result and our amazing Carlton Lodge visit. I will vividly remember Jayden telling Mrs Cinar that I am getting to the top of the zip line and achieving it. You have all been a big part of our sporting successes across the Driffield Cluster, especially our girls' team, competing in the East Riding Finals. We have been the lead school in a 14-school DT Partnership, which has led to enhanced DT work across the school and especially in Y5/6 your bridge-building work was amazing – I think we have a couple of civil engineers of the future, library van visits, Spanish day and winning the East Riding Primary Translatathon competition, Euros fun, our trips and visits – beach days and our work with the church and local community during the year.

However challenging it can be at times, change is a constant in schools. We wish Year 6 well on the next stage of their school journey. I believe that their time with us has equipped them with many of the necessary skills required to thrive in Year 7.

You are all part of our school community. It will always be good to catch up with your new adventures, so if you have the opportunity over the coming years, pop into school, say hello, get a hug from Mrs Austin, and let us know how you are doing.

For many years, as a year 6 teacher, it was my tradition to read a book called “Oh the Places You’ll Go!” by Dr Seuss. We haven’t got time for the whole book, so I’ll leave you with a quote.

Year 6: " You're off to great places; today is your day; your mountain is waiting, so get on your way"
