Year 6 Camping Residential 2021
Year 6 Camping Residential
Due to the impact of the Covids pandemic our leaving Year 6 cohort would have left the school without taking part in our rolling Year 5 and Year 6 residential. With this in mind the staff team set about organising and delivering a Year 6 camping residential which happened on the 9th - 11th July. Please see a report and pictures (below) from a member of the Year 6 class. Following feedback from parents and the children we know they enjoyed many elements of the weekend including: BBQ bacon for breakfast, canoeing and paddle boarding at Allerthorpe lake, the Aqua Park, spending time with friends, sharing tents, a silent disco and a memories campfire. Thank you to all of the staff who supported and gave up their weekends to give our Class 5 a brilliant and memorable send-off.
Kilham School Year 6 Camping Trip!
Over the weekend of Fri 9th – Sun 11th July the Year 6 children at Kilham Church of England Primary School enjoyed a weekend camping experience. Due to the pandemic our normal residential experience was cancelled so staff worked together to plan a weekend under canvas on the school field. Below is an account of the weekend from a Y6 child.
“During our extravagant camping trip, we did many exciting activities; on the first night, we had a delicious barbeque made by Mr Palmer! All of us thought it was scrumptious. Soon we began doing some archery!!! We found it quite difficult but after some time practising, George Salty hit the bullseye! He was shocked and surprised. Sadly, it was time for bed, so we hopped into our tents, had a giggle and slowly fell asleep. In the early morning (4.30 am) the birds chirped loudly as we woke up.
Eagerly, we got dressed for a day at the waterpark in Allerthorpe near Pocklington! On the bus journey there, everybody was overjoyed with expectations for the lake. Finally, we were there! The teachers escorted us to the benches to put our equipment and snacks there. After waiting patiently, some instructors arrived to tell us the procedures. We wore wetsuits and life jackets for safety on the: paddleboards, canoes, kayaks and pedalos. After tipping the teachers into the lake off their paddleboards, we had some lunch before going on the floating inflatable Aqua Park. Excitedly, we jumped and fell on the inflatable slide and bridge with the staff throwing us into the water for fun!!
Eventually, we were back at school feeling exhausted from the activities, we had some free time playing games. To top it all off, we did a photo booth and a silent disco!!! The photos were hilarious with some props. Many of the photos were photobombed by Robin. Our silent disco, which was silent because of the headphones muffling the music but wasn’t very silent because everybody was singing-including teachers! Near the end, we had some pizza for tea and a memories campfire with smores - it was amazing!!! Then it was time to sleep. As we fell asleep, it was silent.
The End of the Camping Trip!
